West Coast Swing invites us to play with music, with our dance, and with our dance partners; to explore and improvise.  It offers that freedom we all enjoy so much!  At the same time, it is built on distinct roles with their individual responsibilities, such as deciding on the structure of the dance for the leads and playing within that structure for the follows.

 

As we to learn to dance and appreciate both roles we have found it allows us, as dancers and humans, to further develop connection, empathy, a better understanding of ourselves, our own dancing, and our partners.  Not to mention fun!

Switch adds another wonderful dimension to dancing those roles!  Steal stirs it all up by adding yet another element of spontaneity.   The two are often added at the same moment!

​We have set up SwitchOnNorthwest to focus on encouraging and supporting the development of both roles for switch and steal, and then switch and steal to help develop both roles.  Our expert instructors will show you ways of switching and stealing fluently between leading and following throughout the dance. All of our social dances will be centered around switch and steal so we can all play and learn.
